Voyages of Antiquity August 2011

“Cruise was wonderful, can honestly say we really had a fantastic time.  Especially as we ended up moving to a loverly balcony cabin as the original cabin they allocated to us turned out to only have fixed twin beds that couldnt be moved.  Our cabin was about the size of the balcony cabins you get on Royal Caribbean (but the balcony area was bigger) the bathroom had a nice size shower and was larger than on RCI and Fred Olsen, and it had my favourite Molten Brown toiletries. It was so nice to sit out on the balcony and watch as the ship sailed into each port (don”t think we will ever be able to do another cruise without having a balcony now lol).  We weren”t sure how we”d like small ship cruising after only going on mid sized ships before, but we actually really liked the intimacy and feel of the ship and didn”t miss the lack of casino etc…   The staff were all great, gave superb service with a smile and couldn”t do enough for you

Loved Sicily best of the destinations we visited, was really surprised at this as I was expecting Greece to be the highlight. Taormina was my favourite port and the lemon ice cream there is to die for!  Food onboard was good, loved having breakfast and lunch out on deck, the tours were informative and well en ligne casino organised. The only included excursions we opted out of was Syracuse, where the lure of the street market was too much and just wandered about on our own and shopped. We were told there were quite a few people from Cambridge on the ship (we only met one couple though) a lot were retired teaching staff, from UK, Australia and USA. Majority of ship guests were retirees, although there were a small handful of younger people on board, but there were some right characters amongst the oldies who had lived life to the full and kept us well entertained at dinner.  Next year they are going to cruise into the winter too and include India/Asia in the new itineries, this news was exceptionally well received amongst the passengers. We met about 3 sets of repeat guests who had previously cruised on Aegean Odyssey and were back for more.  We were really sad at having to jump ship in Malta and wished we could have continued on till Rome.”
