My 24 hours aboard AmaPrima

I must confess I was a little bit of the attitude ‘once you have seen one river cruise ship you have seen them all’ but AmaPrima proved me wrong I have to say (and it is not often I admit to things like that!!)
Obviously I was only onboard a mere 24 hours (give or take) so I am just going to give a quick overview but one you may find helpful.
It is not often I am speechless but on entering my cabin aboard AmaPrima that’s exactly what happened. I was struck by the sheer size of it, which for a river cruise cabin was rather impressive. There were 2 good sized beds (some of them are so short your legs stick out of them and I am not tall), a large wardrobe with adequate number of hangers (this very rarely happens), a fairly good sized bathroom with yummy ‘hydro’ toiletries, waffle robe, slippers, a small seating area plus reasonable sized balcony which meant it outrivalled some of its counterparts with regards to space. Also in the cabins were complimentary bottles of water and even hand cream by each bed!! Impressive!! We managed to get a peep into one of the double balcony cabins which have a French Veranda on one side with floor to ceiling doors that open wide and on the other side an actual balcony with comfortable chairs (it is worth remembering that on this ship there are not just a few of these but on the top 2 cabin decks they are plentiful!!
After looking at the cabins it was time to explore the public areas. The top deck (Sun Deck) has a splash pool (with swim-up bar) and its deep, comfy wicker-like sofas which I can imagine are good ‘gathering spots’ when sailing and the sun is out. You have the walking track as well for the fitness conscious or people that want to catch a few rays whilst sailing along and getting some gentle exercise.
On Deck 3 (Violin Deck) you have the library with books and games in (a small bit of solitude if one requires), main lounge and bar, Observation lounge, Reception, Al Fresco Bistro, Chefs Table Restaurant, Gift Shop, Massage and Salon and Fitness Room (surprisingly well equipped for a river cruise ship with bottles water and towels).
On Deck 2 (Cello Deck) you have the main restaurant and wine bar.
On Deck 1 (Piano Deck) there are no public areas just cabins. There are also cabins on Deck 2 and Deck 3.
I was lucky enough to be invited to dine at the Chefs Table Restaurant which is on Deck 3 and is by invitation only (every passenger should get an invite during a 7 night cruise and this costs no extra.) The menu was 6 courses including watermelon and black pepper sorbet (sooooo yummy and refreshing) and cheddar cheese and chilli sorbet (surprisingly nice) and really was a treat from start to finish!!
Although we didn’t get to do any excursions we were assured that the ships gorgeous décor and creature comforts were a back drop to the experience we would get on land. Most excursions are complimentary and target a variety of travel styles, including themed experiences geared towards art, wine and food.
AmaWaterways offers terrific value-for-money extras on its cruises; these include free and unlimited Wi-Fi (with an unusually fast connection for a cruise ship having been on may this was one of the bestn) and complimentary beer, wine and soft drinks at lunch and dinner.
To round off a great, albeit short experience were the crew – they were outstanding. All very warm, efficient and personable.
All in all I was pleasantly surprised and Ama proved to me they are not just ‘another river cruise line’………..I for one can’t wait to go back and experience one of their cruises in its full glory!!
