Canada is the perfect place to explore with family and friends. As the second largest country in the world, this hugely diverse destination has something for everyone and will certainly provide memories to last a lifetime. A visit to Canada also guarantees great value for money and a warm welcome, with most visitors quickly planning a return trip to this huge land.

The main tip when planning a holiday to Canada is to realise just how big the country is and try not to include too much in one trip. The closest point to the UK is Newfoundland, which is actually closer to us than to Vancouver on the West coast! One of the great train journey’s of the world is ‘The Canadian’ which travels from Toronto to Vancouver and takes an incredible five days!

The seasons in Canada are the same as ours, although the difference between seasons is much more pronounced. They have warm, sun filled summers and ice cold winters (with exceptions), so make sure you plan to go at the correct time, depending on the type of experience you are looking for.

The most popular and perhaps spectacular area to visit is to the mighty Canadian Rockies. Striding the border between Alberta and British Columbia these snow capped peaks provide some of the most incredible views on earth. The resort towns of Banff and Jasper are the perfect place from which to explore, with a visit to Lake Louise and its world famous hotel a must. Keep your camera ready for grizzly and black bear, moose, elk and much more when exploring this area, and find time to set foot on the Athabasca Glacier.

A wonderful way to experience these breathtaking surroundings is to take a trip on the 2 day Rocky Mountaineer train journey. Described as the most spectacular train trip in the world, it offers a daylight only service with a choice between comfortable Redleaf or luxurious Goldleaf service. It travels from Calgary, Banff or Jasper to Vancouver on the west coast and provides a ‘once in a lifetime’ experience. There is also a new route that travels along the Fraser River from Jasper to Whistler and offers the same impeccable service with a different type of stunning scenery.

If you are looking to get off the beaten track or experience some close up wildlife viewing then activities such as heli-hiking or a visit to see the Grizzly bears of Knight Inlet are a must. 1st Class Holidays ‘Complete Guide’ brochure offers a host of ideas to this incredible country.

For something a little different, board one of the Alaskan Cruises to explore some of the most spectacular and unspoilt scenery on earth. Choose from a selection of state of the art ships with a wealth of facilities and offering great value for money.

Canada also offers some wonderful city experiences. Vancouver is often rated as one of the best places in the world to live and has a vibrant feel with a stunning backdrop. Canada’s largest city, Toronto, is found in the east and is a perfect place for a shopping break. It offers a huge selection of museums, theatres, restaurants and galleries and is only two hours from one of the wonders of the world, Niagara Falls.

The French influenced Montreal and Quebec City are perfect places to discover some of Canada’s rich history while enjoying some wonderful cuisine. There are excellent rail links from here to Toronto, Niagara Falls and the capital city, Ottawa.

Travelling in Canada could not be easier. We can help plan your own self drive tour to travel at your own pace, or join an organised coach trip aimed at making the most out of the time that you have in Canada. As many of the popular areas are in National Parks or in remote spots then booking early is always recommended.

Whichever option you choose, Ponders would be glad to assist in helping plan your trip to this wonderful and varied destination.
