Barbados – our favourite Caribbean island

I am sure that by now you all know that Barbados is one of our favourite Caribbean islands.  Beautiful beaches, diverse countryside, clear blue seas, gorgeous accommodation, shopping at its best and eating out is a true experience wherever you are in the island.  Many of you are like us and have returned to Barbados several times.  We thought our little guide on where to eat when on holiday might appeal, so here we go.

If you are travelling in high season – in particular any school holiday dates, Easter, Christmas etc. then please always book in advance.  As these restaurants get so booked up very early. Enjoy our thoughts

CHAMPERS

Champers is one of the leading restaurants on the South Coast with a solid reputation for consistently good food and value for money.  It offers romantic waterside dining with vibrant Caribbean design and atmosphere, and a panoramic ocean view.

CAFÉ SOL                                                 

Barbados’ original Mexican restaurant not only serves up great Tex-Mex-style food but is also one of the liveliest places on the island.  Located on the busiest corner in the St. Lawrence Gap, Café Sol draws locals and visitors alike who enjoy the laid back and informal atmosphere.  Here you can sit back and listen to hot Latin music while sipping your favourite cocktail and savouring delicious food.

FUSION

This refreshing restaurant brings a real measure of Eastern flavour to the island’s bustling south coast. The innovative menu of Asian-influenced dishes offers authentic Thai, Japanese and Cantonese cuisine, including their famous Fusion Sushi, in portions small (tapas) and large – all geared to be shared. Diners have the choice of being served in the spacious, air-conditioned dining area with its chic, contemporary décor, or al fresco on the outdoor lounge area – perfect for lounging and enjoying cocktails from there exclusive cocktail menu.

HARLEQUIN

Dine under the stars tonight! British owner Keith Bowyer, guarantees a warm welcome to this popular, intimate and relaxing restaurant in the heart of St. Lawrence Gap.  The varied menu is prepared fresh to order and served on the starlit terrace accompanied by soft strains of jazz music.  Vegetarian specialties, scrumptious home-made desserts and affordable kids’ meals are available. An international wine and cocktail list make this dining experience complete.

LOBSTER ALIVE 

Our big Caribbean spiny lobster is caught by scuba divers in the nearby Grenadine Island and flown in ‘alive’ by private plane to our large whole sale distribution tank, centrally located at the International Yacht Anchorage in historic Carlisle Bay.  Located on the beautiful Carlisle Bay come and enjoy our mouth-watering food and see the sunset

LUIGI’S 

Luigi’s is a typical Italian ‘trattoria’ serving authentic Italian regional dishes in a very relaxing and homey environment since 1963.  Davide and Adriana, the new Italian owners, are always striving to offers good quality food at reasonable prices. “ Dine Italian tonight “  or as we say, “ Stasera si mangia italino!

NARU

The name “Naru” from the Japanese verb “To Be” illustrates the aim of Naru Restaurant and Lounge. “To be” unique with small plate concept containing Asian and Caribbean ingredients and techniques. “To be” tempting, with visible open kitchen and sushi bar overlooking the restaurant, offering freshly made to order sushi by experienced Asian Chefs. “To be” relaxed by the stunning ocean views and cool breeze from the South Coast boardwalk.

PAULO’S CHURRASCO DO BRASIL

Enjoy the flavours of Paulo’s Churrasco do Brasil in the beautiful historic surroundings of Bagatelle Great House, circa 1645.  A churrascarisa is a Brazilian steakhouse which uses open-fire cooking, a three century old technique originating from southern Brazil.  It was started by the gauchos (cowboys) who would gather around large open fires to slowly roast the meat as they talked about their day’s adventures.  Meat, prepared and served like this in the ‘old days’ is characterized by the grilled taste emanating from each juicy bite.  Specialties: Brazilian, Steakhouse and Vegetarian

PISCES

Nestled on the water’s edge in the bustling atmosphere of St. Lawrence Gap. Pisces has long been one of the islands more sought-after spots to dine with its beautiful oceanfront setting and lush indoor gardens.  Pisces offers diners an international menu with a subtle West Indian influence and features an extensive variety of fresh sea food.  This seaside restaurant, with friendly service and comfortable yet charming ambiance, should not be missed!

WATERSIDE 

Waterside has all the right ingredients to become a favourite with discerning diners – excellent location, outstanding cuisine and attentive service. Ideally situated in the vibrant St. Lawrence Gap, and blessed with a picturesque, tranquil setting right on the edge of the sea, the ambience provides an enticing environment for a pleasurable dining.

WEST COAST

BAJAN BLUE AT SANDY LANE HOTEL

Located on the Terrace, overlooking the sparkling waters of the Caribbean Sea, the newly restyled Bajan Blue offers international cuisine, complemented with Caribbean and Asian influences, and spectacular themed buffet evenings.  A modern wine bar with its cosy mahogany-framed wine displays, a private chef’s dining area, a live lobster tank, sushi station and state of the art grill awaits you.

CIN CIN

Cin Cin is a refreshingly contemporary and elegant restaurant. The open terrace is perfect for ‘al fresco’ ocean side dining at night and the air-conditioned inner restaurant, with an expansive glass wall still allowing uninterrupted views of the sea, is a delightfully cool location for enjoying lunch. The trendy bar lounge area, which is also air-conditioned, is perfect for sipping cocktails or enjoying a light bite.

DAPHNE’S 

This glamorous and tastefully decorated restaurant features a menu inspired by the classic Italian style of living and eating.  Each dish is beautifully prepared, focusing on the fresh quality ingredients.  Excellent wines have been carefully selected from top producers in Italy, France and other regions of the world.

FISHPOT 

Located right on the water’s edge in the picturesque Six Mens fishing village, one of the last remaining undeveloped corners of the West Coast, The Fish Pot at Little Good Harbour is a very attractive alternative to the island usual to the glitz and glamour of this fashionable side of the island.  Housed in part of a converted fort, The Fish Pot is stylishly casual in appearance and offers friendly, efficient service.

PATISSERI & BISTRO FLINDT

This chic West Coast eatery is popular with locals and visitors alike. IL TIEMPO

The only Authentic Italian Restaurant situated, on the beach beside the tranquil waters of the west coast, dubbed ‘the best Italian food in Barbados’  by opera great Luciano Pavarotti.  Italian owners Anna Pirrelli and Leo Valente welcome you, while their Italian chef delights your senses with tantalizing dishes

L’ ACAJOU AT SANDY LANE HOTEL

L’Acajou, Sandy Lane’s fine dining restaurant, exclusive and elegant is located on the Reception Level.  Available to both residents and non- resident guest of the resort, this chic restaurant features light, gourmet cuisine de Provence with flavours of the Mediterranean and an extensive selection of Old and New World wines in an open-air setting.

PALM TERRACE AT FAIRMONT ROYAL PAVILLION

SCARLET

THE CLIFF

Long established as one of the very top restaurants in the Caribbean, The Cliff is the first choice of many people for any special celebration.  The stunning, oceanfront, cliff top setting and ambience are truly magical but it is the food itself which makes The Cliff so special.

THE MEWS

L’AZURE AT THE CRANE HOTEL

The Crane’s breath-taking Scenic beauty and beach are legendary.  For over 120 years diners have enjoyed deliciously prepared seafood as fresh fish and lobster are caught daily by local fishermen.  On Sundays, we feature a gospel brunch and later in the afternoon, a Bajan buffet lunch.
