Shopping in the City with Troy Wellham from Ponders Cruise and Travel:

“I was always told that New York was the city that never sleeps, now I know first-hand this is true as this month I was lucky enough to see it all with my very own eyes. Four of us girls, large half-filled cases in hand travelled down to Heathrow where we boarded out Delta flight to JFK airport. The air stewards/stewardess were more than helpful, food and drink was plentiful and everyone had their own TV screen with lots of choices to view so it wasn’t long before we snuggled down into our comfy leather seats, glass of wine and a good film.

On arrival our transfer was waiting for us, a luxury 4×4 with a very informative driver who gave us lots of good hints and tips for our trip along with pointing out all the sights on the way.

We stayed at The Muse, which was right in the middle of Times Square, chic, modern and the perfect choice for us, whilst the youngsters rushed off to Macys, Bloomingdales and every other shop there was in Times Square that left us 2 ladies to do a bit of people watching and taking in everything around us. The staff at The Muse went out of their way to make sure we were happy at all times and again were able to give us some great tips.

A City Pass is a great way to see the city, they offer open top buses that you can hop on and off anywhere along the way which also includes an audio tour guide, this can be booked before leaving the UK and actually works out cheaper this way, we are more than happy to help you do this and all the details are within our website.

We were advised to see the city from above the best place would be the Rockefeller Centre rather than the Empire State Building, so one evening we did this, it was awesome and the views were fantastic and looked great in all the night lights. We didn’t have to wait too long, however dependent on the time of day you could have to wait around, to avoid this you can always pre book a time slot.

Ground Zero has to be my most memorable place, we arrived a week before their 10th Anniversary so were able to see all the final details taking place. Although this is such a busy city standing there was just so quiet in a strange way, I felt so very emotional and helpless however glad I had the chance to visit.

We joined the City Cruiser for a 90 minute trip along the Hudson River; this enabled us to see Brooklyn Bridge, Ground Zero, the Statue of Liberty, Empire State Building and so much more. A lot of people prefer to see the Statue of Liberty from the River as you can get really close without having to pay extra and queue for hours.

All in all a fantastic trip, however I think an extra 2 nights would have allowed us to fit in Grand Central Station and a few other places of interest.”
