The Magnificent Symphony of the Seas.

Hi Rebecca,

Thanks again for arranging the private transfer back to the airport. We all had a fantastic week aboard Symphony of the Seas. She is certainly a magnificent ship with loads of things going on all the time.

The entertainment was first class, we watched all the shows. Hiro was just spectacular, the best show any of us had ever seen. We also went to the Captain’s Q&A on Friday. Very interesting, he explained how the bow thrusters and three Azipods are used to turn and dock the ship. He also explained how drinking water is produced and how waste water is dealt with.

Our Staterooms were lovely, long and narrow but plenty of room to put everything. How on earth they supply instant hot water to every shower is a mystery, sadly didn’t get a chance to ask at the Q&A session.

Food was also excellent, we all had clean plates every night. As usual they dealt with Julie’s gluten free diet very well. The strangest thing was that with all the various places to eat everyone just seemed to use the Windjammer which was always jammed. After the first day we ate lunch at Park Cafe. It was great to be able to select soup or a salad and sit outside, it always seemed very calm and quite – almost as though other people hadn’t discovered it! Central Park was certainly my favourite place on the ship.

The Cruising Excursions tours also worked well. I was slightly concerned on the first one from Civitavecchia as, having never been there before, I wasn’t sure how long it would take to get to the meeting point. whatsinport.com said that there was a free shuttle to Largo della Pace that ran every 15 minutes. I didn’t believe that as that would never work with such a big ship. Naturally there were lots of shuttle buses which dropped us off at Largo della Pace. I was obviously very early and the tour driver eventually strolled up about 08:50. It was a small group of 7 and we had a lovely morning exploring Tarquinia, Tuscania and Lake Balsena. All very pretty and with lots of history. The second tour to Pompeii and Sorrento was great. Our guide Louisa was very knowledgable about Pompeii. We loved Sorrento and absolutely fascinated by Pompeii. I was expecting Mount Vesuvius to be bigger and more imposing or threatening than it actually is – hard to imagine that it caused so much devastation in 79 AD.

Now looking forward to the Fjords.
